Child Dental Benefits Schedule
What is the Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS)?
The Child Dental Benefits Schedule is a Medicare program offered to children between the ages of two and seventeen years, and their families must be receiving Family Tax Benefit Part A or another relevant Australian Government payment.
Individuals may receive benefits under the CDBS for a variety of dental procedures, including dental checkups, x-rays, cleaning, fissure sealing, fillings, root canal therapy, and extractions. Benefits are not provided for orthodontic or cosmetic dental work, nor are they available for hospital-based services.
You can contact Services Australia to check if your child is eligible for the CDBS. Or you may visit their website for further information on the program.

How Can I Access CDBS for My Child?
Let us know if you’d want to use CDBS while making an appointment at South Lake Smiles. Find out if your balance is close to the cap, because your benefit amount may change. At your child’s appointment, our dentist will verify your child’s eligibility for benefits. Discuss the cost of each service during your appointment and whether CDBS will cover it. When you approve the services and cost, we will give you the consent form to sign.
After your dental treatment is completed, you will receive a bill to pay. To claim a CDBS benefit, use the Express Plus Medicare mobile app, your Medicare online account through myGov, or a Medicare Claim form that can be sent or dropped off at a service centre. Once Medicare approves your claim, the reward will be deposited into your bank account.
How to Check If Your Child is Eligible
The CDBS will determine your child’s eligibility for dental benefits each January. Throughout the year, they check and send you an email if they’re eligible. If you are unsure, you may choose one of the following options:
Go to your Medicare online account through myGov.
